UEFA Europa League Semi-Final: Bayer Leverkusen Takes Commanding Lead
Roma Faces Uphill Battle After First-Leg Defeat
Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Roma
In a thrilling first leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-finals, Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen claimed a decisive 2-0 victory at AS Roma on Thursday. The win puts Leverkusen in a commanding position heading into the second leg at their home stadium, BayArena.
Bayer Leverkusen opened the scoring in the 32nd minute through Piero Hincapie, who headed in a corner kick. The German side doubled their lead just before halftime, as Amine Adli pounced on a loose ball in the Roma box and fired home.
Roma, who reached last year's Europa League final, will have a mountain to climb in the second leg if they want to advance. They will need to score at least three goals without conceding to overturn Leverkusen's advantage.
The second leg of the Europa League semi-final between Bayer Leverkusen and Roma will be played at BayArena on May 16th. The winner of the tie will face either Manchester United or Real Betis in the final in Budapest on May 31st.
